Parkes observations for project P998 semester 2018OCTS_01
We propose a targeted search for pulsars in Terzan 6 - this is a rich globular cluster with a high two-body encounter rate. It was recently identified as a prime candidate for deep searches in
a population analysis by Turk & Lorimer. Based on our calculations, we expect to reach a sensitivity of below 10 uJy in a full transit of the cluster wh... moreich will be sufficient to discover several new pulsars. Like Terzan 5, this cluster is expected to contain a variety of interesting millisecond and binary pulsars. less

P998 - Terzan 6 - The Next Terzan 5?
Globular clusters are dense conglomerations of stars which orbit the bulge of our Galaxy, the Milky Way. As the oldest stellar populations in the Milky Way, globular clusters have long been known to be excellent "breeding grounds" for millisecond pulsars - which are natures finest cosmic clocks. This project aims to find new pulsars in a cluster th... moreat astronomers suspect harbors a significant population that is now within reach of a sensitive wide band receiver that has just been installed at Parkes. less
