Parkes observations for project P855 semester 2014OCTS_BPSR_02
We propose to search for cosmological fast radio transients and intermittent pulsars during windstows and maintenance. Fast radio transients are millisecond bursts of radio emission coming from cosmological distances, of which five are currently known. New discoveries made in our searches will enable better characterisation of this unexpected pop... moreulation of objects. We will also search for intermittent pulsars, which have duty cycles of 0.1 to 0.2 and time scales of weeks to months that were likely missed in previous surveys. less

P855 - A Parkes transit survey for pulsed radio emission during windstows and maintenance
Two fascinating new classes of bursting objects have been discovered in recent years: pulsars that turn on and off for no understood reason, and unexpected bright bursts of radio emission from very distant Galaxies. We are using the telescope to search for these things when the telescope can't be moved.
